Gaza (Palestine) - QPI
Dozens of Palestinians in Gaza participated in a march today to mark the 69th anniversary of the Nakba, the catastrophe which resulted in the mass expulsion of one million Palestinians and the creation of the State of Israel.
Demonstrators marched through the streets of Gaza city and stopped in front of the UNESCO headquarters. They held placards reading: “We will return to Palestine” and “The old die and young do not forget”, amongst others.
In a speech given on the sidelines of the march, Islamic Jihad leader, Nafez Azzam, said: "We reiterate, on this anniversary, our commitment to our legitimate and fair right to return to our homes from which we were displaced in 1948."
“We insist on holding on to our rights, in spite of all the international and regional conspiracies being hatched against the Palestinian people.”
Various Palestinian movements, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, DFLP, PFLP, PPP, and the Palestinian Freedom Movement, participated in the march.
